St George Girls High School Celebrates 100 years of Public Education in 2016

Former and current St Georgians and staff ,will celebrate the centenary of the school in a number of ways this  year.  July  23 2016 is the date of the special luncheon at Doltone House in the City.

I taught at the school from 1977 until 2011-a period of 35 years. This is almost 1/3 of the school’s history.

I have observed many changes in the school in this time. I have documented these on my website annefieldauthor.com in my Speeches category –notes for the 1983, 1984 and 1985 girls reunions . I must acknowledge  Ms  Lyn Brown’s valuable assistance in the production of these reunion notes.

I am always happy to see former students and reminded me of my response” I am delighted to learn how they are faring in life’s journey. We sometimes also have a laugh  about past events.

One former student at the 1983 girls reunion reminded me ,that one day i had turned up to class wearing mismatching black shoes. My year 12 Geography class had noticed. One student was brave enough in class to tell me .She reminded me at the reunion  of  my response;” girls it was dark in the cupboard this morning “

Students recall my purple leather pants  from the late 1970’s and 1980’s(i still have them ) ; my hanging petticoat, which sometimes had gestetner ink on it ;my interesting stockings; the variety of scarves ( many of which came with a story )  and my  unusual jewellery

I retired from St George Girls High School at the end of 2011.Life for me has been very different – it has been diversified and challenging.  . My political career ended in September 2008 when i left Kogarah Council, and Local Government, after 17 years as a Councillor.

In April 2012, I completed an adventure in the Southern Ocean and out of Eden . This has been You Tubed as the 8 minute Anne’s Adventure. This story will become an e book in 2017. I have over the past few years been working on completing my History of Moorefield Racecourse Kogarah (1888-1951) I aim to launch this in mid -2016 . My Facebook site,Moorefield Racecourse Kogarah details my research.

After my bottle story is completed, I plan to write a children’s book . This will be based on one of my 3  Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lizzie.
