On Wednesday night June 4th 2014, I attended the Rockdale City Council meeting as a member of the Rockdale City Council Library Committee.
Community members spoke in favour of the Library. Council approved the final design and construction of a new library , a library that has been thirty years overdue. I recall the various meetings and reports in respect of a new library at Rockdale when I was a Councillor there from 1991-1999. I was a Councillor at Kogarah Council when the new Library opened in late 2005 .
Libraries play an important role in our local community –they are not just a collection of books , local history resources, or computers. Different groups meet in the library , interesting guest speakers present their talks on a range of topics , and the foyer is used for exhibitions.
A library is an invaluable resource to allow people of all ages to have social interaction, as well as to be able to improve their knowledge.
The community in Rockdale City Council will benefit enormously from this new library . And the staff will have a wonderful environment in which to work . Most of all Rockdale City Council will be seen to have vision to have embarked on this exciting project ,which is expected to be completed in February 2016.
